I know those of us in library land who work in the state of California, have eagerly been awaiting the updated survey for school libraries. Well the wait is over... The California Department of Education has launched the updated survey and it will be active until June 30, 2017. You do have some time, but I encourage you not to wait until the last minute to complete the survey. The CDE relies on your assistance, to complete the survey for your school or schools, and to encourage other schools to complete the survey even if you or they do not have a library. Please take this opportunity to complete the survey and assist the CDE in gathering information about individual school libraries as they were at the end of the 15-16 school year. I have included the link to the library survey and here is the password: @YourLibrary (typed just as it appears here) to access the survey.

Connect, Collaborate, and Grow Through Diversity
CSLA Annual Conference 2017 was DYNAMIC! I met new people, enjoyed my time with old friends, and received a wealth of knowledge to take back to my school library. One of the presentations that I shared was on diversity in the school library. Thought I'd share... 😄 Click on the link below ↓

Martin's BIG Words
A fun activity to get the students thinking about the power of words! This week I shared Martin's Big Words by: Doreen Rappaport with my fourth graders and we discussed the meaning of "BIG Words." Then we created a collage of our own "BIG" words. This of course was an opportunity for the students to use markers/colored pencils/and crayons (Yippie!!!) but you can also have your students create a Wordle of their "BIG" words.

Teaching Tolerance
This is a great resource for integrating #diversity into your school library program. Teaching Tolerance has a lot of #freeresources that you can use so no need to reinvent the wheel. #diversityequityandjustice for our students.

Library 2.0 Tutorials
So you might be asking yourself..... what are these 2.0 tools everyone is talking about? Or maybe you you've never even heard of 2.0 tools. Well I'll give you a very simple definition of Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is about revolutionary new ways of creating, collaborating, editing and sharing user-generated content online. It's also about ease of use. There's no need to download, and teachers and students can master many of these tools in minutes. Technology has never been easier or more accessible to all. So with that said I'd like to share a link that has dynamic "free" tutorial that you can do or even have your students do.
